An application can come back to you for something small: a filtered photo, a missing pose, a picture that is out of date. This guide shows you how to get your photos and video right the first time.

[01 Digitals]

Your digitals

Digitals are the five plain photos every talent provides. They are not meant to be glamorous. Clients need to see what you actually look like today, your face, skin, hair and shape, so they can picture you in their project. That is why they must be natural, unretouched and recent.

The five photos

  1. Headshot

Face the camera, from the shoulders up, with your hair off your face.

  2. Profile

Turn to one side, from the shoulders up, so we see your profile.

  3. Full body, front

Stand straight facing the camera, head to toe in the frame, arms by your sides.

  4. Full body, side

Turn to one side, standing straight, head to toe in the frame.

  5. Full body, back

Turn your back to the camera, head to toe in the frame.

Do

  • Use natural light or stand in front of a plain background.
  • Make sure the photo is sharp and well lit.
  • Keep your hair away from your face.
  • Wear simple, fitted clothing, so your shape is clear.
  • Take them within the last three months.
  • Shoot them on your phone if you like. A phone photo is fine.

Don't

  • No filters or retouching, including your camera's beauty mode.
  • No heavy makeup.
  • No sunglasses.

You can upload JPEG, PNG or iPhone HEIC photos of up to 15 MB each. We remove the location from every photo and keep your digitals private.

[02 Portfolio]

Your portfolio

Your portfolio is professional work: images from shoots, campaigns, editorials or test shoots with a photographer. Digitals show what you look like. A portfolio shows what you can do in front of a camera: how you move, take direction and change from one look to the next. If you apply as a model, you can add one to your application.

How many is enough

Six to twelve strong images is plenty. Choose your best and leave out anything you would need to explain.

Variety over quantity

Show range: close-up and full length, indoors and outdoors, different looks, moods and styling. Several images from the same shoot say one thing; images from different shoots say much more.

Starting out? It is optional

You do not need a portfolio to apply. If you are just starting, your digitals are enough, and you can add professional images later as you work.

[03 Reel]

Your reel

Your reel is one video of up to three minutes that shows your work. It plays on Toma, so clients can watch it without leaving the site. A reel is optional, and it matters most if you apply as an actor.

Lead with your strongest work

Put your best moment first. Clients decide quickly whether to keep watching.

A self-tape is fine

You do not need professional footage. A self-tape filmed on your phone, in good light and with clear sound, works as a reel.

Three minutes is a limit, not a target

A short reel of only your best work beats a long one. The file can be up to 500 MB.

For actors

  • Open on you, close up, so clients know who they are watching.
  • Choose scenes where you are the focus, not another actor.
  • Show range with contrasting scenes, such as one dramatic and one comic.
  • Include the languages and accents you list in your application.
  • Make sure you can be heard clearly in every scene.
  • Skip long title cards and music intros. Start with your work.
